The small spots and brown colour of the lesser-spotted catshark’s skin makes good camouflage. Since they live close to the bottom of the sea they can often hide between and under rocks and algae. If that isn’t enough their bodies are covered in an amazing chain-link armour made of tiny tooth-like scales (called denticles). Sometimes even that is not enough and we have found bigger sharks with bits of catsharks (even their chain-link armour!) in their stomachs.
