The Hazel Dormouse is a rodent, like mice and rats, however within the rodent genus are different families. The Hazel Dormouse, and all other dormice, are categorised with the squirrels and sugar gliders. Some gene comparison experiments have been done between squirrels and other dormice and they are very similar. It was originally decided based on there muscle and bone structure being very similar, especially to do with the skull!
