      Normally, when they are in their egg-cases (Mermaid’s Purses) they thrash their tails around like that to help circulate the water. There are four openings in the corners of each egg-case that lets fresh water in so the baby sharks can get oxygen to grow. Thrashing their tails creates little currents in the eggs that helps renew the water through these holes. In this video, we opened an egg to show you the baby but it doesn’t ‘know’ its out so it keeps whipping its tail instinctively.
