Interestingly, the Hazel Dormouse is not actually a mouse although we look very similar. We are in the same family (rodents) but I am actually closer related to a squirrel! The name dormouse was adapted from the French word ‘to sleep’, which is dormir, because of how long I hibernate for. The only real difference between the males and females of this species are the size; the males are slightly bigger, plus the obvious biological differences!
