Unfortunately, no single genome sequence will ever be enough to cure a complicated disease like cancer on its own. However, by sequencing the catshark genome we might be able to use it as a model to study some human disease processes, possibly even some types of cancer. There is a popular myth that sharks don’t get cancer and that products made of their skeleton will cure cancer, but this is not true.
