      It is not usually possible, because to get the DNA from a snail, we have to preserve it first – which involves freezing it.

      Unless we know the precise location that the snail was collected from the in first place, it is also not ethical to release it into the wild again – we would be mixing things up in an artificial way.

      If I was allowed, I would release lefty snails into my allotment!
